A Sri Lankan woman died at a facility in Nagoya immigration, and the video of the surveillance camera in containment was disclosed to the bereaved family for the first time.

Sri Lankan Wishma Sandamari got sick at the Nagoya Regional Immigration Bureau and she died in March of this year.

The Immigration Bureau of Japan released the final report investigating the circumstances of the death,

the surveillance camera image of MS. Wishma’s detention was shown to the bereaved family for the first time.

The bereaved family said This is an important video. I want everyone to see it. I want you to see what (my sister) experienced in the immigration facility.”

The bereaved family said that there was no humane treatment. The video to be disclosed was scheduled for “2 hours”, but after watching it for about an hour, the bereaved family became mentally unbearable

Ms. Wishma came to Japan in June 2017 to learn Japanese, but she stopped attending a Japanese language school and she was removed from the school in a year. She was subsequently detained in the police station in August of last year when she remained illegal. She complained of poor health from mid-January this year and died on March 6.
