He is the third high-profile politician and former ally of Duterte to declare a presidential bid. “Instead of flattening the curve we have flattened the economy, yet many people continue to flatline in our hospitals,” Isko Moreno said on Wednesday, speaking from a new housing development in the Manila slums of Tondo, where he grew up and worked as a rubbish collector before he became an actor. “Yes, I grew up being poor. But I have never been bad-mannered. Although I’ve lived in the trash, not once did I become foul-mouthed,” he said while taking a swipe at the alleged corruption in the Duterte administration’s purchase of medical equipment during the pandemic.” I may not give you a perfect government, but together we can make it better,” Moreno said, as he announced his bid for the top job. The son of late Philippines strongman Ferdinand Marcos declared that he will run for president, ending speculation about his political ambitions but stirring anger among victims of his father’s brutal era of martial law. He says he would rather focus on the overwhelming problems the country faces and the modern-day solutions to solving them. Former President Ferdinand Marcos has the legacy of achieving one of the greatest agricultural outputs among past presidents of the Philippines. It was during his presidency that the Philippines saw the Golden Age of Agriculture. Inspired by this legacy of his father, Senator Bongbong Marcos has also been a staunch advocate of using agriculture as the key to economic development.
